Patrick Terminals reaches ARMG milestone

Patrick Terminals has said construction on the $190 million on-dock rail project at Patrick Terminals – Sydney Autostrad at Port Botany is progressing as planned, with the first stage due to be completed by the end of 2020.

In a statement, Michale Jovicic, CEO, Patrick Terminals, said he was “pleased” with the project’s progress and that the it now entered an “exciting phase where we commence the installation and commissioning of the automated rail mounted gantry (ARMG).

“Patrick Terminals will maintain rail services during the significant capital works program,” Jovicic went on to say.

The project is expected to increase traffic at Sydney Autostrad from 250,000 to 1 million TEU a year.

It will achieve this through faster rail turnaround times, more rail services and cut the number of trucks visiting the terminal by terminal by 900.

In early January 2020, Patrick Terminals signed a “comprehensive software and maintenance and support agreement” with Kalmar as part of its automation drive, a story Port Technology International (PTI) reported on.
