Maersk’s upgraded reefer technology to help ZIM reach new markets
A.P. Moeller-Maersk (Maersk) has said its subsidiary Maersk Container Industry (MCI) will expand ZIM Integrated Shipping Service’s (ZIM) refrigerated container (reefer) fleet.
In a statement, MCI said it will supply ZIM with 500 Star Cool Control Atmosphere-enabled reefers, which it said will support the carrier’s ambition of expanding into new markets.
This is the fourth consecutive order from ZIM for MCI’s reefers and the parties say it showcases their “ongoing collaboration and partnership”.
Michal Marcus, ZIMonitor Product Manager: “We are very pleased to diversify our ZIMonitor reefer fleet with MCI’s Controlled Atmosphere technology.
“These advanced units are specifically suited for sensitive products, such as blueberries and avocado, and will enable more customers to enjoy the advantages of ZIM’s exclusive ZIMonitor service, a first-class solution for high value, sensitive cargo.”
MCI’s Controlled Atmosphere Star Cool system “ticks all the boxes” that ZIM is looking for in reefer container transportation; reliability, proven technology, and well-known among users in the field, according to the statement.
Maersk has made considerable advances in the reefer market in recent years, opening up a major cold store warehouse in St Petersburg, Russia, earlier in 2020.
